– Prospects of construction of a nuclear power plant in Perm region have long been in the highlight

This year the authorities of Perm region may start active work for selecting a site for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Perm region. Almost 8mln RUR and 24mln RUR will be allocated for this purpose in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

The prospects of construction of a nuclear power plant in Perm region have long been in the highlight. We, first of all, must understand if we really need a nuclear power plant and, if yes, where we should build it. In order to answer these questions our deputies have decided to allocate money for relevant study. This is not an answer to the question if we need an NPP, this is a preparation for such an answer. As soon as we see that we really need an NPP and that we have capacities for building it, we will discuss this project with the public. For the time being, we have nothing to discuss. I represent Komi-Permyak Autonomous District. Our people hope that the NPP will be built in their territory. They hope that their economy and industry will be developed and that this will attract new technologies and create new jobs. And NPP can guarantee all that.
