– Selection of Atomstroyexport CJSC for building two units of Khmelnitsky NPP in Ukraine was not a coincidence

Ukraine has already completed the first round of its negotiations with Russian Atomstroyexport over the construction of the 3rd and 4th units of Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant and expects the Russian side to ensure the greater part of the investments, the head of the operating organization, Energoatom, Yuri Nedashkovsky said during a meeting with journalists. He said that the first round of the tender had already been completed. Ukraine has decided who will supply reactors for the new units – it will be Russia. The next step is announcement of a tender with one participant – Atomstroyexport CJSC.

The selection of Atomstroyexport CJSC for building two units of Khmelnitsky Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine was not a coincidence. The Russian nuclear technologies have already proved their efficiency at Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant in China and are being successfully applied under the Kudankulam (India) and Buhehr (Iran) projects.

The Ukrainian side says that the tender offers have been assessed in 21 technical and economic parameters, one of which was the readiness to provide financial support for the project.

It should be noted that Atomstroyexport has won in a serious rivalry with Westinghouse and Korea Electric Power Corporation. The high technical parameters and the readiness to attract loans for the projects were the key factors for the selection of Atomstroyexport.
