Russia and India have signed an agreement for the construction of four more reactors at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and for cooperation at other sites. The agreement was signed in New Delhi during the official visit of President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev to India.
We are completing the construction of two nuclear reactors at Kudankulam site in India. The Indian market has been open to us for a long time and this is our substantial advantage over the other nuclear powers that may come there after the lifting of Nuclear Suppliers Group’s restrictions on India.
India has always trusted us and all experts were sure that the agreement for the construction of four more reactors at Kudankulam would be signed. And I am glad that this happened.
There is competition on the NPP construction market: for example, French companies are quite active in China. So, no surprise that Indian sites are also an object of rivalry. However, all nuclear reactors launched worldwide of late are our reactors. The French are building a reactor in Finland but they have fallen well behind the schedule. So, it is obvious that we will continue building nuclear reactors in India. I think that it will be NPP-2006 reactors.
