Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Ministry of Federal Planning, State Investments and Services of Argentina have signed a statement on cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The statement was signed by Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Nikolay Spassky and Minister of Federal Planning, State Investments and Services of Argentina Julio de Vido in the presence of President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner
Nuclear technologies are becoming one of the key items of the Russian export. Last week Russia signed a big nuclear agreement with India, a bit earlier – with Brazil and Venezuela, now with the nuclear leader of Latin America, Argentina. Such an active expansion of Rosatom into global markets is especially important now that Russia is experiencing difficulties with the export of fuel and raw materials. More and more countries are beginning to develop nuclear energy. Here Russia is one of the leaders and has all capacities for compensating its losses caused by the fall of oil prices.
The return to Latin America, one of the most dynamically developing regions of the world, is very important for the Russian economy and geo-politics. This will give Russia strategic long-term presence in a zone traditional controlled by the United States. The Russian-Argentinean cooperation implies such directions as supply of nuclear fuel to Argentinean nuclear power plants, production of radio-isotopes, development of innovative nuclear power reactors of low and medium capacities and delivery of equipment to NPPs.
The interest in Russian technologies and capacities in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy is steadily growing, which proves that our nuclear industry is highly competitive. So, let’s hope that, as one of the strongest links of our economy, it will help us to stop our dependence on export of raw materials and to start exporting innovative high-tech products.
