— Russia is advanced in nuclear technology and can offer technology and knowledge to Latin American countries

Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Ministry of Federal Planning, State Investments and Services of Argentina have signed a statement on cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The statement was signed by Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Nikolay Spassky and Minister of Federal Planning, State Investments and Services of Argentina Julio de Vido in the presence of President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev and President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner. We woud like to remind that earlier Russia signed a nuclear cooperation agreement with Venezuela.

I believe that there might be a strong interest of Argentina and Venezuela to cooperate with Russia on the peaceful application of nuclear energy. This is a clear signal, a clear interest, I think, especially of Venezuela and Argentina to extend their cooperation and also in the field of nuclear energy.

There might be some interest in Brazil, less in Mexico. I think the strongest interest to cooperate has Venezuela. In Argentina and especially Brazil I can imagine that other foreign utilities, i.e. from France or USA, are welcome to create nuclear power plants.

Speaking about the reasons of interest towards cooperation, of course, Russia is advanced in nuclear technology and can offer technology and knowledge and I agree that it is on the first front.
