– Award granted as a result of such big competition is especially valuable

Kursk Nuclear Power Plant has been awarded the annual ecological prize of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Russia “Best Ecological Project of the Year” in the “In Harmony with Nature” nomination.

I am very grad that Kursk Nuclear Power Plant has been awarded the “Best Ecological Project of the Year” prize in the “In Harmony with Nature” nomination. As far as I know, it was the first such contest organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The award granted as a result of such big competition – as many as 580 industrial and power companies, research and educational institutions, public organizations and even individuals contended for it — is especially valuable.

If a company producing nuclear energy gets such an award from a ministry responsible for ecological safety it is good news for both the company and the ecology.

The Ministry has a public council comprising representatives of the best-known ecological and public organizations, directors of academic institutions, big ecologists. I think that the results of the contest were coordinated with them.

I would like to note that Kursk NPP has almost no direct impact on the environment. The waste treatment system and the whole technological chain of the company are organized in such a way as to prevent any possible impacts at present and in the future.
