The working group set up for making necessary preparations for large-scale strategic cooperation between Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation and Siemens has started its work today, Feb 4, 2009. The agreement for establishing such cooperation was reached during an enlarged meeting of the Board of Siemens in Moscow, Feb 3, 2009.
The consolidation of the capacities of Rosatom and Siemens, two companies enjoying leading positions in their fields, will result in the appearance of a very strong player on the nuclear energy market. It is clear what the basis of this partnership is.
Siemens is the world’s leading producer of control and management systems. Particularly, the modern digital control system Russia is planning to build in Bulgaria will be manufactured by Siemens. Siemens is also strong in the production of non-nuclear equipment.
In its turn, Russia is the only country in the world that is building several nuclear reactors both at home and abroad. More specifically, it is building 7 reactors at 5 sites: 2 1,000MW reactors at Belene NPP in Bulgaria, 2 reactors at Kudankulam NPP in India, 1 reactor at Bushehr NPP in Iran. Russia will most probably finish the construction of the 3rd and 4th units of Mochovce NPP in Slovakia. We have bid for the right to build Turkey’s first NPP and have agreed to build new reactors in China and India.
Thus, for Siemens partnership with Rosatom means guaranteed contracts, which is really vital for the company now that the global economy is facing crisis.
The alliance of Rosatom and Siemens is mutually beneficial partnership, which will help both companies to turn their advantages into real benefits on new markets. I believe that this alliance will open the door for us into Europe.
