In 2009 the financing of the production of equipment for nuclear reactors at St.Petersburg plants will total 20.2bln RUR, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko said while visiting Baltiysky Zavod in St.Petersburg Apr 21 2009. The amount of contracts concluded with seven machine building companies of St.Petersburg in the last three years totaled 94.4bln RUR: 1.3bln RUR was paid in 2007, 12.8bln RUR in 2008. Kiriyenko said that in the future the financing will be increased as Rosatom needs additional equipment for its nuclear power plants.
Rosatom is actually an important player on the world market of nuclear power, an energy source without which the world will hardly manage in the coming decades. Rosatom has received multi-billion budgetary support and is now making lots of contracts at home and abroad under its big and ambitious projects. Such work is especially important under crisis. It confirms Rosatom’s high significance and reputation on the nuclear energy market.
Russia has companies that produce similar articles and can compete with one another. It also has monopolists like OMZ, producing reactor vessels, or ZiO Podolsk, manufacturing steam generators and heat exchangers.
Power Machines has also been monopolist in its field until quite recently but now it has a rival, Atomenergomash-Alstom, a Russian-French JV producing low speed turbines. For the other companies Rosatom organizes tenders. Rosatom’s contracts guarantee financial stability and jobs for the partner companies. The St.Petersburg figures prove that Rosatom is working on a large scale despite the crisis.
