– Quite a closed sector in the past, the nuclear power industry is presently holding transparent public procurement procedures

The tender committee for the selection of equipment suppliers for the 4th unit of Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant has held its first meeting in the framework of the “Fair of Nuclear Power Plant Construction.” The committee examined the offers of the participants in the second stage of the tender. The final decision will made within 10 days.

The “Fair of Nuclear Power Plant Construction” is an opportunity for different organizations to take part in tenders, to exchange information and to discuss problems of quality and competition. This is important as preparation for a tender is a peculiar process and we must know its peculiarities. At such forums we can establish cooperation with companies producing equipment we do not have and this is a good way to enhance our competitiveness.

One of the key achievements of this fair is that, being quite a closed sector in the past, the nuclear power industry is presently holding transparent public procurement procedures based on the price/quality formula.

Equipment procurement tenders are held in two stages. The prequalification round screens out all agents and go-betweens and guarantees that only real producers enter the market. The competition of the qualifying organizations is the competition of high technologies rather than just prices. Today, the nuclear power industry has become more open and this has boosted healthy competition.
