Kumar Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of Nuclear Power Corporation of India

– Atomexpo is an excellent forum

Atomexpo 2009 international forum is taking place in Moscow May 26–28.

Atomexpo is an excellent forum, where the leaders of the world’s nuclear industry meet in one and the same place, exchange their visions of the prospects of nuclear energy and views of the present scenario of nuclear renaissance, when the general demand for nuclear energy is growing but the supply is limited because for many years the industry has been “dormant.” We have realized that cooperation alongside with competition is the best way for us to develop nuclear energy. Today, at Atomexpo, everybody is meeting and uniting.

India and Russia have cooperated for many years. Presently, they are finishing the construction of two reactors of Russian design. This year we are planning to start building two more reactors. The Indian-Russian inter-governmental agreement says that as many as 6 WWER reactors should be built at Kudankulam and that one more site should be allotted for Russian reactors. As a result, we will have a total of 10–12 WWER reactors.
