Lo Changsheng, Director General of Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation of China National Nuclear Corporation

– Atomexpo is an amazing exhibition

Atomexpo 2009 international forum is taking place in Moscow May 26–28.

Atomexpo is an amazing exhibition. I have seen lots of influential foreign corporation here. It is a very good idea to combine a congress and an exhibition.

CNNC is one of the few corporations developing a wide range of different nuclear projects. We would like to be among the best in this field. Our corporation offers a full cycle of nuclear services: from prospecting, mining and processing of uranium and engineering and construction of nuclear power plants to treatment of nuclear waste. That’s why we seek presence on the world market. Rosatom is an influential corporation and it is a pleasure for us to take part in an exhibition organized by Rosatom.

The Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy has a long history. In the 1990s construction was experiencing a boom. It was then that we started to build the 1st and 2nd units of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant. Today, the cooperation with Russia has risen to a new level. In Nov 2007 China and Russia concluded a long-term agreement for cooperation in the field of power engineering. We have agreed to implement a big number of joint projects covering all directions of nuclear power engineering, including prospecting and mining of uranium, construction of nuclear power plants, research and development. In the past 30 years we have substantially developed our domestic production and, today, we need foreign experience. We have good specialists and research companies and we could implement much bigger joint projects and help each other on the world nuclear energy market. For example, we could jointly design plants of the fourth generation. Presently, China is implementing a big program in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and there are lots of areas where we could cooperate with the Russians.
