Vladimir Anikiyev, Chairman of the Board of Russian Ecological Independent Inspection

– Those who spread such lies must be made responsible

Last weekend some sources alleged in the internet and by means of SMS that there had been accidents at some of the Russian nuclear power plants, particularly, at Kursk, Novovoronezh, Balakovo and Volgodonsk NPPs. The Information and PR Center of Energoatom Concern and the regional departments of the Emergency Ministry of Russia have refuted this information.

It is a well-known situation. The opponents of nuclear energy keep predicting some future shocks. But they give no figures. Each time they just remember Chernobyl and say that we must be prudent and must shut down our nuclear power plants.

I don’t know exactly how they are financed but, for example, organizations like Greenpeace are initially contra. The World Wildlife Fund is also at the crossroads — so, obviously, they also get money from somewhere…

Very often they do not much care to explain why they think that there may be an accident somewhere. They just say that there will be an accident and scare people.

Those who spread such lies must be made responsible. Simply, we must find the one who was the first to tell the lie.
