Public hearings on the preliminary environmental impact assessment of the project to build and operate the 1st and 2nd units of Tver Nuclear Power Plant took place in Udomlia July 8 2009. Representatives of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Energoatom Concern, the authorities of Tver region, Udomlia and Udomlia district, public organizations and mass media as well as residents of Udomlia district took part in the hearings. The representative of the general designer of Tver NPP-the deputy chief engineer of the project of Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenerpgoekt Sergey Kuvardin was the key speaker of the hearings. He said that the construction of Tver NPP would boost investments and tax revenues and would ensure the economic security and stability of the region. According to the preliminary estimates of Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenergoproekt, throughout its service life the plant will pay 40bln RUR in profit tax, 50bln RUR in property tax, 1bln RUR in land tax, 50mlnRUR in transport tax.
The nuclear industry of Russia enjoys high capacities in all fields of the nuclear fuel cycle and is highly competitive in on the world market of nuclear services. In line with its general scheme and following global trends, the Government of Russia is spending big money on the construction of nuclear power plants. The Tver NPP project is an important stage of the development of the whole Central Federal District and, first of all, Moscow and Moscow region as these regions are highly attractive for investors and are stable consumers of energy.
The launch of new power capacities is especially important now in the face of crisis. This project will give Tver new jobs, social stability, construction of roads and social infrastructure and enlargement of taxation. All this will stimulate economic growth in the region.
