– Atomstroyexport has very high chances to cooperate with CEZ in the field of NPP construction

Atomstroyexport has very high chances to cooperate with CEZ in the field of NPP construction. In Czechoslovakia nuclear power engineering and power machine building developed in symbiosis with Soviet technologies. The Czech NPPs, particularly, the plant in Temelin, are based on WWER technology and the interest of the Czech power engineers to continue their technological cooperation with Russian producers is quite logical.

Initially, Temelin NPP was supposed to have four reactors but the construction of the 3rd and 4th units was suspended in the 1990s following a cool-down in Russian-Czech relations. So, our participation in the project to enlarge Temelin is also logical.

The traditional collaboration of the Russian and Czech power machine building sectors is continued. Skoda JS, one of the leaders of this field, is part of Russian OMZ, while a number of Czech companies producing equipment for nuclear power plants are oriented towards the Russian market. However, we must be ready for rivalry: some foreign players may also want to cooperate with CEZ.

Earlier, a representative of Rosatom SC said that Rosatom will take part in the tender for the right to build two reactors in the Czech Republic, Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation said during a press-conference. A survey held in the spring 2009 has shown that 77% of the Czechs support the enlargement of Temelin Nuclear Power Plant. Last autumn Vice Premier of Russia, Co-Chair of Russian-Czech Inter-Governmental Commission Alexander Zhukov said that Russia was interested in building new nuclear reactors in the Czech Republic, jointly with Czech companies. These projects would be part of Russian-Czech investment cooperation.
