On November 22 the deputy hearing of the Baltic NPP construction project took place in Krasnoxznamensk (the Kaliningrad Region). The hearings were attended by the delegates from Rosatom State Corporation, the Kaliningrad Regional Authorities, Saint-Petersburg Atomenergoproject, JSC, the citizens of Krasnoznamenskiy and Nemanskiy districts and Sovetsk city.

Alexey Zinov’ev, the deputy of the Kaliningrad Regional Duma:

I believe that such facilities bear the structural component. Therefore, in any event, the region will acquire additional trends associated with resource generation in the Kaliningrad Region related to the need to provide maintenance for this infrastructure. It is important to understand the mechanism of the electric power transfer.

As far as I know, virtually new construction community will be built near the plant. I visited the Smolensk Region along with the other deputies, watching how it was accomplished in Udomlya. We all enjoyed it very much! The infrastructure was highly estimated. People have no fear and they are reluctant to leave.

Here we also have Ignalina in immediate reach, and it’s all right, no one seems scared. We just have to get rid of certain barriers in the people’s minds in terms of their attitude towards NPPs. We even managed to give some reassurance to the NPP opponents overtime. Well, I saw some familiar people while watching the news, who were strongly against the nuclear power plant, and now they speak positive in this respect.

It should be mentioned that it is expected to construct two units of at least 1,170 MWt each at the Baltic NPP. The estimated cost of the Baltic NPP construction will make over 194 bn. rubles in prices of the first quarter of 2009. At the peak period of the Baltic NPP construction over 8,000 will be employed there. After the plant commissioning the regional budgets of all levels will be getting up to 2 bn. rubles every year
