Terentyev Alexander, head of Department of preparations to operation of the “RosEnergoAtom” branch — « „Direction of FAPP projects“:

— Nuclear power plants are one of the cleanest ways to produce energy. The load on the environment is reduced due to minimizing of the construction activities on the site area, absence of nuclear materials on the coastal area, possibility of the unit disposal after completion of the operation, as well as due to use in the project of a number of technical nuances. In particular, we used a more powerful biological protection as compared with the one that used in nuclear submarines. As a result there are reduced radiation levels in premises, both within and outside the shell. There is also reduced the air activation in the control room. Ventilation of the rooms of the reactor compartment converted into partially closed mode, the air vent is provided with filters for absorption of radioactive substances. In addition, we plan to put filters functioning as per closed-circuit, because the plant will be located near the city. One could consider this measure even as excessive — discharge into the air will be even less than that one required as per EIA, although the EIA meets all sanitary requirements.

For the first time, refueling will be carried out inside the ship, as well as storage of spent nuclear fuel. Therefore, the probability of any accidents during the treatment of spent nuclear fuel outside the floating unit is completely excluded. There won’t be prejudiced the fishers as well — they will still be able to fish on their favorite places. Firstly, ionizing radiation remains within the shell. Secondly, the impact of warm water is also limited within a small area between the floating power unit and a berth. Thirdly, a current prevailing in the bay will not change because the pier of the floating plant, protecting the unit from the waves coming from the water area, will be on piles. Consequently, the floating APP will not affect either the migration of fishes or at their normal activity.
