Dmitry Baranov, leading expert of the management company Finam Management:

— Currently, the market of medium and low power reactors is practically unavailable that makes our project very promising in terms of its commercialization.

The state Corporation Rosatom and the En + Group (based on EuroSibEnergo) have registered a joint venture– AKME-engineering JSC. The joint venture is established on a parity basis and will be involved in developing and biulding an experimental reactor with a capacity of 100 MW based on the technology of lead-bismuth fast reactor (SVBR) and will promote subsequent commercialization of this technology. The technology of SVBR-100 reactor facility is developed by enterprises of Rosatom. The nearest plans of the joint venture are the completion of R & D in support of the project and the issue the technical design of the reactor plant and capital equipment, as well as designing of an experimental pilot power unit and obtaining of a license to its placement. The commissioning of the pilot power unit with a SVBR-100 reactor can be implemented in 2019.

Dmitry Baranov, a leading expert of the management company Finam Management:

— The decision of the state corporation Rosatom to establish a joint venture with En + Group which will focus on development and construction of the experimental reactor with a capacity of 100 MW based on the technology of lead-bismuth fast reactor (SVBR) indicates that Rosatom is investing not only in the well debugged technologies and projects, but also aspires to the future by investing in new innovative projects. The SVBR project is just one of them.

The uniqueness of it is that a SVBR may be sufficiently compact and mobile that enables its easy transporting over long distances and applying in remote areas where no conventional electricity supply network is available, and we have so far, unfortunately, a lot of such places. In addition to solving problems of providing our citizens with energy and heat the SVBR can be offered at the world’s market as well. Currently, the market of medium and low power reactors is practically unavailable that makes our project very promising in terms of its commercialization. Many countries which want to develop nuclear energy but have no means to do so, and the SVBR can be a good solution for them, because it will be cheaper than larger reactors. Bearing in mind the modular design of the new reactor, it can be used on special vessels that will allow to move it from place to place, and besides, it can be used together with equipment for water desalination. This option enables its using worldwide, because it is well known that hundreds of millions of people around the world are deprived of clean drinking water. The task of the newly established joint venture is to start as quickly as possible production of these reactors, not only for profit, but also to solve problems with energy supply and obtaining fresh water in many countries.
