Yury Lipatov, chairman of the State Duma’s Committee on Energy:
— Nuclear industry is coming to the end of this year successfully- I think that the main result is that, despite the crisis, it met in whole the expectations of the government which entrusted it with the task of a driving force for a number of industries. Those orders, which Rosatom places now at engineering plants, allow a large number of enterprises not only to keep afloat, but also provide an opportunity for a serious modernization of equipment. In the frameworks of the nuclear power plant construction program Rosatom provides with orders seven engineering enterprises of St. Petersburg: Izhora Works, Baltic Shipyard, Kirovsky Plant, Concern «Power Machines», including Izhora-metal, Petrokran, sectoral Central Design Bureau of machinery construction, — total orders for 20 billion rubles. This is, in my opinion, a strong support for mechanical engineering. However, the Corporation aims at creation of a competitive landscape carrying out the procurement on a tender basis. This allows to improve quality and reduce costs of public funds, and to establish some barriers for corruption as well.
Among other positive outcomes, I would note, of course, starting up of the 2nd power unit of Rostov nuclear power plant – that is a great event for the nuclear industry. As for overseas activities of Rosatom, it works so far quite well – they finish the works at Bushehr, the construction in Kudankulam is in full swing. Negotiations with new partners are going on. There is every reason to believe that in the future the positive development dynamics will be continued.
