On June 29, 2010 in Krasnoyarsk representatives of Technical Commission of Rosatom State Corporation and TVEL OJSC signed an act on decommissioning of a nuclear facility for low-enriched uranium dioxide ceramic powders production in the territory of the Chemical and Metallurgical Plant.
Denis Demin, investment analyst, Deputy Managing Director of Lenmonatzhstroy IC:
Together with lifetime termination of nuclear power industry facilities put into operation in the second half of the previous century decommissioning service market continues to ascend and it happens not only in Russia but in the whole world. Improving the competence in the field of facilities decommissioning and spent nuclear fuel handling is very important for Rosatom from the point of view of supply for domestic needs and within the framework of improving of the state corporation performance at the outer markets.
Relatively recently Rosatom divisions bought NUKEM Technologies that can be also regarded as another step towards development of this growing market segment. Decommissioning of the nuclear facility in Krasnoyarsk can be treated, particularly, as a momentous event for popularization of nuclear technologies. It is not a secret that too painful perception of environmental risks associated with the nuclear technologies has been the main constraining factor for the branch development for many years.
Gaining public confidence in respect of nuclear power industry is indispensable condition for implementation of Rosatom expanding capacities program.
