Kazakhstan will get a share in Ural Electrochemical Integrated Plant
Ekaterina Tripoten, analyst of IC «Sovlink»:
For a long time Russia has been interested in gaining access to Kazakhstan resource base having much more uranium resources than RF. Kazakhstan, in its turn, has thoroughly chosen the partner, the key criterion was obtaining access to the fullest chain of nuclear fuel cycle. Now the long negotiations are being brought to life.
The Memorandum on cooperation is a framework document of general nature. In my opinion, specific agreements being concluded for its development are of greater importance.
In particular, the deal with UEIP is a good bargain for Russia. Transferring the share in UEIP Rosatom not only involves Kazakhstan into cooperation with the purpose of obtaining access to its deposits but ensures work load of the Russian plant. And the Agreement on marketing policy is concluded to protect RF from potential competitors at traditional uranium products sales market.
