In November, 2010 Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC intends to issue tenders for modernization of Novovoronezh and Smolensk NPPs power units in which Ukrainian Turboatom OJSC may take part.
Vladimir Zhydkikh, Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on Youth Affairs and Tourism, a member of the FC Commission on Natural Monopolies:
After the election of a new Ukrainian President, the economic cooperation between our countries, including the cooperation in the nuclear power sphere, has started its rapid development. I believe it is important for the both countries.
Ukranian Turboatom is interested in new orders and market expansion, while Russian nuclear scientists are interested in attracting of new suppliers in order to improve the competitive environment in the nuclear engineering.
I hope that in the end the attraction of new suppliers will contribute to the desired result: reduction of costs connected with nuclear power plants construction. It is very important, if to take into account the ambitious plans for commissioning of new power units. It goes without saying, that cost reduction shall not reduce the construction quality.
In my opinion, Rosatom’s current policy for reestablishment of effective contacts which existed in the Soviet nuclear power industry – and this is how we should regard the current cooperation with Ukraine and Kazakhstan in the sphere of uranium supplies, construction of new power units etc.– is very logic. It is beneficial for all of us and I believe it will have a tangible effect in the near future.
