Alexander Ignatyuk, an analyst of Energokapital IG:

 — Russia is an old and reliable economical partner of Armenia

On July 29 in Erevan the Armenian government meeting was held which approved conclusion of the agreement with the Russian government “On Cooperation in Construction of New Nuclear Power Units in the territory of Armenia”.

Alexander Ignatyuk, an analyst of Energokapital IG:

Russia is an old and reliable economical partner of Armenia. Over 20% of external turnover of the country are due to commercial relations with Russian companies. Russia is also one of the largest investors in the Armenian economy including the energy sector.

At present Inter RAO UES operates the only nuclear power plant in Armenia generating over 45% of electric power in the republic, the Russian party also supplies to Armenia raw material that is traditional for the energy sector.

Thus, it is quite reasonable that the Armenian administration in spite of the close political interaction with the USA (one of the main competitors of Rosatom in the nuclear power industry) came out for extension of economic and technologic cooperation with our country. Besides, Armenian power engineers are acquainted with VVER reactors of Armenia NPP operating in the republic. It’s also worthwhile to say that Armenia is a seismically dangerous country, and only Russian specialists are experienced in safe NPP construction in this region.

As for the Russian party, it will have the opportunity not only to construct new reactors but also perform their service maintenance and filling.
