On August 21, the delivery of fresh nuclear fuel to the reactor compartment of Busher NPP (the Islamic Republic of Iran) was started under supervision of the IAEA inspectors. This event symbolizes the end of the test stage for all systems of the plant, which was constructed with the participation of Russian specialists, and the beginning of the stage of power unit physical startup. The event was attended by Vice-President of Iran, Head of Iran Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salekhi, General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Sergey Kirienko and Head of RF Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision Nikolay Kutyin, who personally got acquainted with the progress of works performed at the plant.
Konstantin Zaytsev, Deputy Chairman of Energy Committee of RF State Duma:
The physical startup of the nuclear power plant in Busher is an important event.
I would like to lay a special emphasis to the fact that all work at the plant, including nuclear fuel charge, is performed under close control of the IAEA inspectors and it excludes all the questions concerning the fact that Busher is a kind of Iran military program. I hope that neither sane politician thinks so.
That is why Busher’s commissioning is an extremely important event not only for Iran, which will finally get its own nuclear power plant, but for Russian nuclear scientists as well. They once again proved themselves as reliable partners which are capable to keep to schedule and implement the work in due time.
This is important because in future we are planning to increase the number of foreign orders.
