Nuclear Fuel State Concern (the Ukraine) and Rosatom Nuclear Energy State Corporation (Russia) have signed an agreement of purchase and sale of shares of the International Uranium Enrichment Centre.
Michael Pogrebinsky, Director of Kiev Centre of Political and Conflict Studies:
At present a wide range of questions is being negotiated at various stages and different spheres. The negotiations on the development of a joint venture with Gazprom have been quite recently resumed. And now we have obtained some information about the acquisition of shares of Russian uranium enrichment enterprise.
I believe all this proves that the cooperation in high-tech and power industries gains its momentum and this is one more step towards closer cooperation. In my opinion it does not mean that the Ukrainian party has made its final choice.
Judging by the mood of the Ukrainian negotiators I sometimes communicate with, I can say that the Ukraine will try to implement everything that it benefits from the cooperation with Russia as quick as possible. But it does not mean that the options of competence with other third countries will be excluded.
