Elena Kompaniets, Head of Chaun Municipal District Administration:

 — The FNTPP construction in Pevek is very attractive for our citizens because it will increase the gross regional product and provide additional income for the budgets of different levels.

The project of floating nuclear thermal power plant construction (FNTPP) is vital for social and economic development of the Chukotka Autonomous District and is the key element of the region development strategy. This was announced by Roman Kopin, the governor of the Chukotka Autonomous District, during the meeting with representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC and Atomenergo CJSC on August 26, 2010.

Elena Kompaniets, Head of Chaun Municipal District Administration:

The FNTPP construction in Pevek is very attractive for our citizens because it will increase the gross regional product and provide additional income for the budgets of different levels. The fact that the personnel of Chaun TPP which has outlived its usefulness will receive the opportunity to obtain employment at the floating nuclear power plant is also very important for us. The construction of onshore waterworks will also demand more of our manpower. During the operation the personnel of the heating unit, sewage dispersal plants, security service etc. will also be recruited from the citizens from the region. And it means that there will be so many work places!

Aside from that, wide public acceptance of the project is also related to the FNTPP security. It is a unique power source of the new generation which was designed on the basis of Russian technologies of the nuclear shipbuilding industry. The archetypes of reactor systems have been successfully operated at Sevmorput’ lash lighter carrier and Taymyr and Vaygach nuclear-powered ice-breakers and their reliability has been proved by a long-term practice. Moreover, the reactor systems are equipped with effective security systems, including passive systems which do not depend on human factor or automatics. By all means it cannot but create a positive attitude to the project. We are waiting for the beginning of its realization, as it is vital for the citizens of our region and Chukotka in general.
