Nikolay Monko, Head of Department of Icebreaker Support and Hydrography of the Northern Sea Route Administration under the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency:

 — If heavy-tonnage vessels use the Northern Sea Route it will be very profitable from the economic point of view.

On August 26 in Pevek, General Director of Atomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise Vyacheslav Ruksh said that the optimal price for Atomflot services related to the Northern Sea Route pilotage should be only a bit higher than the price for the Suez Canal pilotage. This information was provided by the External Affairs Department of Atomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise.

Nikolay Monko, Head of Department of Icebreaker Support and Hydrography of the Northern Sea Route Administration under the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency:

The Northern Sea Route development is a vital and very important objective. If heavy-tonnage vessels use the Northern Sea Route it will be very profitable from the economic point of view. And then we will be able to spend on development and usage of the Northern Sea Route not only budgetary money, but also the money which will be obtained from the freight traffic activity.

But today the State concern remains the most important thing for the Northern Sea Route. If the State devotes funds for its support and construction of new vessels, the route will develop and become a good economically feasible alternative to the Suez Canal route.
