Andrey Kislov, Deputy Head of Department for Safety of Nuclear Facilities and Control over Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Matters of Rostekhnadzor

– The enhancement of the capacity of the Angarsk Electrolytic Chemical Combine in the framework of the International Nuclear Center will not result in any serious changes in the radiation situation in the area

Any technical and technological changes at the Electrolytic Chemical Combine in Angarsk, Irkutsk region, which is to become the basis of the International Uranium Enrichment Center, will be fully controlled by Rostekhnadzor and will have no serious impact on the radio-ecological situation in the region, says the deputy head of the Department for the Safety of Nuclear Facilities and Control Over Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Matters of Rostekhnadzor Andrey Kislov.

«No production enlargement or technical changes are being planned at the enterprise at the current stage. When we coordinating the documents we agreed that no substantial changes will be made in safety standards. Any measure related to the new nuclear project in Angarsk or to any change in therein should be safe and approved by ecological experts,» says Kislov.

The uranium enrichment unit in Angarsk has no negative impact on the radio-ecological situation in the region.

«So, we can expect that the building of one more unit will not lead to any changes either,» says Kislov.
