Yuri Barmakov, Director of All-Russian Research Institute of Automatics

— We are ready to equip 4 nuclear power units a year

Speaking of the results of the past year, I would like to say that really huge work has been done in just one year. In fact, we have formed an absolutely new strategy of the nuclear power sector development. The start-up position was almost zero. That’s why the past year was really crucial. The next year will be decisive in terms of practical work. We have got federal programs, which is very important.

The nuclear power sector and our institute, in particular, have colossal prospects. We really hope we do. In fact, our whole life is directed towards this goal.

Moreover, already today, we are getting ready for increasing NPP building to 4 units a year by 2015; we are even ready to equip the 4 units.

Any Russian equipment is not just competitive, it is better than any foreign counterpart. This is my firm conviction.

The prospects of the sector will depend on our performance. If formerly we launched 1 unit in 5 years, now we are going to start launching 2 units a year and then 4 units a year – tens times as many. And we are ready to support the whole strategic line with our supplies.

Our general policy should be to offer Russian production: not some occasional conglomerate of different countries and different firms but a single technical project that can be tailored to the needs of the client but should, first of all, be based on Russian technologies. Starting from some point – in 1 or 2 years, when the policy will take shape – we will have to rely mostly on our specialists, suppliers and technologies.
