Sergey Komarov, Deputy Director of Institute for Energy Development of Regions

— 1% growth in the efficiency factor of the Russian NPP will give Russia additional 2bln KWh a year

The urgent resolution of the energy supply problem is extremely important for the Russian regions as energy shortfall is one of the key obstacles to their economic development. The Russian NPPs are much less efficient that the European ones. One of the key reasons of this lag is poorly coordinated NPP repair program. Today, Rosenergoatom is planning to increase the efficiency factor of the Russian NPPs  and to improve its NPP repair program, particularly, by reducing the repair periods. However, we should not forget that we should also modernize the electric networks and should solve the problem of control restrictions, which is much more difficult a task than to solve technical problems.

If we raise the plant ratio to 85% against present 74%, we will get additional 2bln KWh a year per each 1%.
