Today, the Federation Council approved the federal bill “On the Peculiarities of the Management of the Property and Shares of Organizations Using Nuclear Energy and On Relevant Changes to Some Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.” To remind, the bill was presented by the President and approved by the MPs with some changes. “The Committee on Natural Monopolies has worked on the bill from the very first day,” says the first vice chairman of the committee Valentin Mezhevich. ”This is a system law allowing us to successfully develop the nuclear power sector but it will certainly need relevant normative basis. The law has brought the sector into our competence and we will closely follow the course of the reforms.”
Earlier, Mezhevich said that the law will become a legal basis for a vertically-integrated state-owned company – a structure controlling nuclear fuel production and NPP building in Russia and abroad. “The law allows us to bring all pieces of our nuclear cycle together into a single complex. The enterprises of this complex will be determined by the President so there is no way for our nuclear power complex to go into private hands,” Mezhevich said.
