Vladimir Germanenko, Vice Chairman of FC Committee on Budget, member of FC Committee on Natural Monopolies

— The law will allow to attract additional investments in the development of the nuclear power industry

On Feb 5 2007 Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified the federal law “On the Peculiarities of the Management and Disposition of the Property and Shares of Organizations Using Nuclear Energy and On Relevant Changes to Some Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.” Vice Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Budget, member of the FC Committee on Natural Monopolies Vladimir Germanenko comments on the law.

The law will allow us to attract additional investments in the development of the nuclear power industry. In the last 16 years we have invested very little money in the support and development of the industry. Unless we take effective measures to increase the share of nuclear energy in the total energy balance, it will inevitably drop. In developed countries, nuclear energy has the biggest share in the energy system.

The key point is the inflow of investments and, certainly, the change of attitude towards the sector. A JSC has more rights and more capacities.

I think that the law is progressive. If all safety conditions are observed, it will allow us to not only preserve the present state of the nuclear industry but also to actively develop it and to fulfill the President’s task: to increase the share of nuclear energy in the total energy balance to 25% by 2030.
