– We have launched the second GOELRO plan

“The residents of Voronezh region are lucky. The construction of a new unit at Novovoronezh NPP is a strong stimulus for the region’s industrial development. This project will give the region new jobs, enlarging production and growing tax revenues,” says State Duma deputy Vladimir Zhidkikh.

“This is a very important project. It has given start to the federal program for increasing the share of nuclear energy in the total energy output in Russia. In fact, this is the second GOELRO plan (plan of the State Commission for Electrification of Russia adopted in 1920). The launch of new NPPs will enhance the efficiency of our technologies, the competence of our personnel – and, certainly, our competitiveness abroad.”

This unit is by far safer and stronger than the existing ones and can work for twice as long. “In NPP safety we are far ahead of our other nuclear powers. Our safety standards are very high and give 100% guarantees against accidents or ecological impacts. In this context, I would very much like Rosatom to start building a reactor in Tomsk region. According to the government program, the construction there will start in 2009,” Zhidkikh said.
