Boris Krupnov, rector of Children’s Nuclear Academy

– We should not only build new reactors but also finish the unfinished ones

The launch of the federal nuclear energy development program inspires hope that our country will avoid energy crisis, says the rector of Children’s Nuclear Academy Boris Krupnov.

“Time has shown that nuclear power engineering is one of the safest industries in our country. Our NPPs are stable and meet all international safety standards,” says Krupnov.

He welcomes the construction of new reactors but believes that this process must be intensified. “It was a wrong step on our part to stop the construction of Bashkirian and Kostroma NPPs. I hope that one day we will restart those projects. I support those experts who say that Kostroma NPP must be built sooner or later.”

Krupnov notes that the state policy of favoring nuclear power engineering has spurred the youth’s interest in this sector. “Some three years ago we could not be so sure of the prospects of nuclear energy. Today, we know that the knowledge we are giving to children will be used by them. The industry is growing and will need highly-qualified specialists.”
