Rafael Harutunyan, first deputy director of Nuclear Safety Institute

– Nuclear technologies will inevitably step out of energy sector

The level of our nuclear technologies is comparable with the level of our space projects and this potential can be successfully used in many other sectors.

The countries with developed nuclear technologies have long learned to export their solutions to civil sector, medicine, industry. Energy sector is not only electricity. Many think that nuclear energy is only a source of electricity. Meanwhile, sooner or later we will face oil and gas crisis and then nuclear energy will go beyond is present limits. For example, the production of hydrogen at high-temperature reactors is a global solution to the problem of ecological fuel. This is important not only for energy sector but for whole industry. Sooner or later we will face the problem of fuel for cars and will have to start a large-scale production of hydrogen. This is also nuclear technologies. That’s why it is extremely important to introduce nuclear innovations in so-called civil sectors.
