Anatoly Petrov, chief designer of NIKIET

– Consolidation of nuclear power industry has come to a logical conclusion

On the Day of Nuclear Power Engineer, the chief designer of NIKIET Anatoly Petrov told journalists about the achievements of the nuclear power industry:

“I am glad to see that that the consolidation of the nuclear power industry has come to a logical conclusion. The decision to set up a united state corporation will help us to bring the military and civil sectors together and to optimize the work of the companies that serve both of them. Now, we will be able to balance our economy and to use the achievements of the military sector for developing the civil one.”

“I would like to point out our achievements on the world market. The launch of Tianwan NPP in China, the JV with Alstom – such projects keep our authority high and solve many diplomatic problems. One more promising project is the International Uranium Enrichment Center – it is one of our priorities as it is an effective solution to the problem of non-proliferation and a guarantee of nuclear development for non-nuclear states.”

“As regards safety, I would like to note that all of our WWER and RBNK reactors have been upgraded to the level of modern foreign reactors.”

“This year Leningrad NPP has modernized its 3rd unit with a view to enhance its safety and to prolong its life for as many as 15 years. The 2nd unit is also being modernized. So, next year all the four RBMK reactors of Leningrad NPP will have extended service lives and enhanced safety.”
