Viktor Perekhozhev, director of IRM

– The industry is actively developing

On the Day of Nuclear Power Engineer, the director of the Institute of Reactor Materials Viktor Perekhozhev told journalists about the achievements of the nuclear power industry and his institute, in particular:

“This year was not easy for us. The industry is actively developing. The Government has launched a federal target program. So, we have a lot of work to do. We already have certain achievements: particularly, this year we have substantially increased the sales of radio-isotopic products. The industry is growing precipitously and we have to keep pace. As a person who has given his whole life to this sphere, I can’t but rejoice at this progress.”

“I believe that the federal target program will give a new impulse to the industry. This program is very timely: today, we are among the leaders in the sphere and we must not lose our advantages. We are entering world markets, building nuclear power plants abroad, setting up joint ventures – all this shows that we are highly competitive. We are keeping a constant eye on our colleagues abroad and we see that our technologies are not worse than theirs. I would like to note that Russia is not the only country who has begun to actively develop its nuclear power industry. There are lots of other states who wish to have nuclear technologies. So, we have no time to relax. I can’t speak for nuclear power engineers but as a researcher I can say that we have huge experience and vast experimental base. We have many interesting projects and I am sure that we can help the industry with its ambitious plans.”
