Sergey Shishkaryov, State Duma deputy

– We need a breakthrough in the development of power infrastructure

On Oct 11 State Duma is to consider the bill on the establishment of Rosatom state corporation for nuclear energy. The corporation will comprise Atomeneroprom holding, nuclear weapons complex, fundamental science and nuclear and radiation safety institutes.

“The present structure of the nuclear industry is not effective enough for solving the ambitious tasks set by the President. In his last address to the Federal Assembly President Putin said that 26 nuclear power units should be built in Russia in the next 12 years against 30 units throughout the Soviet period. We have already launched the program and can’t go back. In order to turn Russia into a strong energy power we must build a more efficient management system. Today, many Russian regions are experiencing energy shortfalls. So, we need a breakthrough in the development of our energy infrastructure. Our nuclear industry is one of the few high-tech sectors that have retained their scientific and industrial infrastructure and we should bring all those sectors together into one complex.”
