Vladimir Grachyov, chairman of State Duma Committee on Ecology

– Large-scale development of nuclear power industry will solve the problem of global climate change

On Friday our committee examined two bills on the establishment of “Rosatom” state corporation. We believe that the adoption of the laws will help us to enhance the competitiveness of our civil nuclear industry and to ensure the stability of the military sector.

This will help us to actively develop nuclear power engineering in Russia and to successfully compete on the world market in both NPP construction and electricity supply.

As an ecologist, I would like to say that the large-scale development of nuclear power industry will help us to solve the problem of global climate change. The energy generated by nuclear power plants is ecologically safe and does not produce greenhouse effect. In fact, nuclear energy can help us to reduce the number and scale of natural disasters and to curb the climate change on the globe.

As regards nuclear and radiation safety, I believe that the better the industry works the safer it will be and I am sure that the Rosatom state corporation will help us to solve this problem.
