As a member of the Public Council and a public activist, I welcome Rosatom’s practical approach to the problems we have inherited from the Soviet times.
The problem of the village of Muslumovo has almost been solved. By launching the restored dam of the Techa Reservoir Cascade, Rosatom has completed the first stage of the anti-crisis program at Mayak PA.
A total of 2bln RUR was spent to enhance the safety of Mayak in 2006–2007. In 2008–2015 the program will receive 17bln RUR more in the framework of the federal target program “Nuclear and Radiation Safety in 2008–2015.”
At first, many people doubted that the problem of Techa could be resolved because it needed big financing and effective technological solutions.
Now, we see that Rosatom has a specific strategic policy on the problem and this policy has a strong financial basis. I am optimistic but we have much to do yet to overcome the negative legacy of the past and to prevent its negative influence on people and the environment. The Public Council will take an active part in this work.
