Igor Chestin, director of Russian Office of WWF

– I applaud Rosatom for its work

In the last two years Rosatom has done really huge work to solve the radiation-related problems of Chelyabinsk region. At last, after 30 years of empty talk, we have started to solve the problem of the village of Muslumovo.

Rosatom has started one more important project: to resettle the population of Oktiabiskoye. I welcome Rosatom’s efforts.

The Soviet-time Sredmash did nothing to solve these problems. Today, the new management of Rosatom are doing their best to solve them effectively. They have changed the director of Mayak and have started large-scale reformation of the plant. Mayak is an important asset – it treats spent nuclear fuel. So, we must preserve it and ensure its effective and safe work.
