1st unit of Smolensk NPP restarted

Smolensk NPP: 1st unit restarted

The 1st unit of Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant was restarted on Jan 26 at 07:15 AM after removal of the transformer problem that caused its automatic stoppage on Jan 24.

Presently, the unit is operating at 500MW. The capacity is being raised.

For the moment the 1st and 2nd units of Smolensk NPP are operating at a total capacity of 1,505MW.

The 3rd unit has been under maintenance since Aug 12 2008.

Smolensk NPP is operating safely and efficiently. The radiation background at the plant and in the nearby area is within norm.
