Rustem Khamitov, the president of Bashkiria, and Sergey Kiriyenko, the head of Rosatom State Corporation, discussed the perspectives of cooperation in terms of placement of orders for manufacturing of products for the nuclear power industry at the republic’s plants.

“A group of Rosatom specialists will arrive soon to Ufa to study the opportunities and discuss the details of manufacturing of products for the nuclear power industry at Bashkiria plants. After all, currently we construct nine NPPs in the territory of the Russian Federation and seven NPPs – abroad”, S. Kiriyenko reported to the journalists after meeting with R. Khamitov in Ufa on Saturday.

S. Kiriyenko explained that the reason for such decision was the republic’s offer to construct an industrial park at the uncompleted NPP in Agidel City where products will be manufactured for the construction industry.

As, according to him, construction of the nuclear power plant in Bashkiria will not be conducted till 2020, then, this complex which occupies more than 600 hectares, will be saved and used for the benefit of Bashkiria population and budget. “It is a good decision for us, we could act as a client of that manufacturing complex which will occupy the nowadays vacant industrial areas”, — S. Kiriyenko said.

Construction of Bashkiria NPP in Agidel was suspended in 1990 upon the public request after an accident at Chernobyl NPP.

In his turn, R. Khamitov reported to the journalists that “the republic should use all the opportunities for economic development”. He expressed confidence that cooperation with “such industrial giant as Rosenergoatom would very perspective for the republic, and our friendly relations with the concern head will ensure long-term and successful cooperation”.

In his turn, Sergey Novikov,a representative of State Corporation, reported to the Interfax that Rosatom head assumed that after 2020 they might return to discussion of Bashkiria NPP construction.

According to S. Novikov. S. Kiriyenko reported about it at the meeting with S. Khamitov.

During the conversation Rosatom head reminded that construction project of Bashkiria NPP had not been included in the master plan of power unit location in the Russian Federation. However according to him, in a further perspective, renewal of this project will depend on federal authority decision and a number of various factors as well. In particular, when making a decision related to NPP construction the following issues shall be taken into account: site infrastructure (roads, networks), perspective of demand for electric power of the future NPP, as well as the opportunity to reserve its capacities for repair period.
