10.08.2010 // Ïðåññ-öåíòð àòîìíîé ýíåðãåòèêè

In connection with the fire dangerous situation in different regions of the country caused by abnormal weather conditions, “RosRAO” Radioactive Waste Handling Enterprise FSUE is taking preventive measures to provide fire safety of its production sites and adjacent territories.

According to RosRAO, these events include inspections of the reserve fire fighting reservoir, water basins and pathways to them, fire-fighting technical means at each of 17 sites and regular inspections of the adjacent territories.

According to Andrey Chizhov, Head of RosRAO FSUE Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department, currently the fire situation at the sites and adjacent territories is within the norms. A set of additional measures are being taken in each of the regions falling in the hazard area. We have carried out an unscheduled inspection of the emergency firefighting equipment, fire line networks, engineering equipment and vehicles used to evacuate people and property in case of a real fire hazard.

At the sites the fire teams have been reinforces, protective fire lines on the way to the sites have been replenished, dead fallen wood has been removed from the territories. About 300 persons are participating in the fire safety works. At present in Nizhny Novgorod branch of RosRAO the nearest peat fire is located 6 kilometers far from the site. Besides, 3 hot spots of peat bogs have been extinguished within a radius of 10 kilometers from the Kazan Department site in the Republic of Tatarstan. Currently, there is no smoke or any hazard for the site. There was an excessive smoke at the Chelyabinsk Department site. It was caused by windy transfer of fire from the site located at a 70 kilometer distance.
