At the construction site of Leningrad NPP-2, during the continued unique operation on installation of a fusion isolator or fusion trap (FT) in the reactor building of power unit No.1, the specialists of TITAN-2 holding company have completed the works on preparation of a cantilever truss for mounting.
The works are being performed by the specialists of one of Russia’s leading installation organizations integrated in TITAN-2 holding company – “Installation and Construction Department No.90” OJSC.
The cantilever truss is one of the heaviest parts of a fusion trap, it weighs about 155 tons. 14 mounting supports have been installed during the pre-assembly which provides the opportunity to start mounting of this unit right after the reactor vault is ready for the construction works.
The first experience in the history of Russian NPPs construction related to the fusion trap mounting dates back to December 19, 2009 when a trap shell with weight of 152 tons was installed. After that, 5 assemblies of sacrificial material with total weight of 144 tons were placed in the FT shell. The next stage after the cantilever truss mounting will be the mounting of a service platform (68 tons) and a bottom plate (166 tons).
The FT – is a facility, filled in with special material, which will help to neutralize hazardous exposure of melted fuel and prevent it from entry into the environment in case of a non-design basis accident. The FT is a cone-shaped metal construction with total weight of 800 tons, which is located directly under the reactor. In order to perform this work, TITAN-2 holding company has acquired Manitowoc 18 000 — the only Russian heavy duty crane with lifting capacity of 750 tons.
