Representatives of Rosatom’s TVEL Fuel Company presented at the Vth International Nuclear Forum in Saint Petersburg the basic company projects in the field of environmental safety and reported about new lines of activity in this sphere.
“Regarding operating safety and ecological acceptability as essential conditions for development and use of nuclear technologies, TVEL constantly improves its programs in its sphere. The company implements multi-purpose projects aimed at mitigation and cushioning of ecological risks. The key one is complete decommissioning of radiation-dangerous sites”, Head of nuclear and radiation safety department of TVEL Fuel Company Anatoly Ipatov said at the conference.
In particular, in 2010 TVEL has successfully completed decommissioning of a nuclear plant in the territory of Chemical and Metallurgical Plant OJSC. For the first time in the history of domestic nuclear power industry this industrial site is cleaned up to the “greenfield” condition and fully suitable for further social use.
The experience of Chemical and Metallurgical Plant OJSC is being used for implementation of the integrated program of nuclear- and radiation-hazardous sites decommissioning of the Fuel Company enterprises.
Within the framework of this program the company’s specialists are working at Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant OJSC and Chepetsk Mechanical Plant OJSC at decommissioning of production lines of industrial carbon-uranium reactor items. On the basis of Siberian Chemical Plant OJSC reactor plant îïûòíûé a centre carbon-uranium reactor decommissioning is established.
Also Angarsk Electrolysis Chemical Plant OJSC has started to work on the project of decommissioning of departments that won’t be used in production. Besides, the company’s specialists are carrying out research and development according to the projects of decommissioning of a number of facilities in the territory of AA Bochvar VNIINM and the critical stand on the industrial site of Machine-Building Plant OJSC.

TVEL OJSC is specialized in development, production and sales (including export) of nuclear fuel, as well as corresponding nuclear and nonnuclear products.
According to Rosatom State Corporation decision a fuel company is being established on the basis of TVEL OJSC. The fuel company is established to develop an optimal management structure for nuclear fuel cycle enterprises in order to improve performance efficiency and competitiveness in the global market of products and services of the nuclear fuel cycle and totally satisfy the demands of Russian and foreign customers. At the same time the fuel company will improve the start position for to create global alliances with foreign companies and ensure priority development of the scientific component required for innovative development of production facilities.
At the first stage the Fuel Company will integrate gas centrifuge producing enterprises, separation and sublimate plants and fuel producing plants. The President of TVEL OJSC is Yury Olenin, the Chairman of the board of directors is Deputy General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Alexander Lokshin.
